The Sacramento Valley Paralegal Association is committed to supporting the needs of students, faculty and directors of Sacramento area Paralegal / Legal Assisting programs.

SVPA is continuously working with Sacramento area colleges that have Paralegal or Legal Assisting programs as well as the Sacramento area legal community in an effort to assist students in preparation for a career as a Paralegal / Legal Assistant.  SVPA offers support to students in various ways such as reduced membership rates, scholarship opportunities, an annual student dedicated “Pay it Forward” event and the opportunity to participate in the Paralegal and Student Shadowing (PASS) Program.

Our bi-monthly newsletter, The Journal, offers a specific section providing information of past, present and future events as well as information on new and exciting programs that are aimed to promote student growth and achievement. Additionally, SVPA provides information by presenting to students during class time hours several times throughout the year.

As legal professionals, we at SVPA feel that the support provided to Paralegal / Legal Assistant students is not only a benefit to them but will improve the Paralegal /Legal Assistant profession and legal community as a whole.

Paralegal & Student Shadowing (PASS) Program

The PASS Program is designed to give SVPA student members the opportunity to observe a working Paralegal / Legal Assistant in their working environment, ask questions and receive insight and valuable information related to the job requirements and tasks associated with that of the working Paralegal / Legal Assistant thus passing knowledge along.  SVPA realizes that time is valuable which is why we’ve specifically designed the PASS Program to be able to work within professional and personal lives.

Students who would like to shadow a paralegal, or if you are an employers or current paralegal interested in allowing a student to shadow you, please email us for program details.

SVPA would like to recognize and express our sincere gratitude to the past and present Partnering Firms below for their contributions in giving back to the Sacramento area legal community.  For more information on how to become involved in SVPA’s efforts to serve students and connect with schools, email us!

“The PASS program has provided me with the opportunity to connect to local and accessible role models, network with potential employers, and learn what is expected of the regions most competent paralegals. As a student, the value of these initial opportunities cannot be understated”, by Andrew S., American River College Student.

“The PASS Program was very helpful and motivating! I was ready to jump right in and start helping before the time was up! I definitely recommend the PASS Program to any Paralegal that wants a real-life perspective!”, by Marina F., MTI College Student.

“SVPA  provides students opportunities that truly inspire them to start thinking and acting like paralegal professionals before they even graduate. The shadowing program, that many of my students have taken advantage of, is a unique learning experience. ARC students have expressed that they could not have experienced anything like it in the classroom.”, by Julia Brynelson, Adjunct Professor, American River College.

“As a new paralegal, SVPA has been invaluable source information and encouragement. The PASS program in particular was a great ‘sneak peak’ into the legal world and the experience neatly tied the classwork to the real world reality of being a paralegal. It’s a great opportunity for students!” by Mary S., MTI College Student.

“Membership in SVPA opens up an incredible vault of information that is indispensable to paralegal students, graduates and working paralegals. Regular SVPA email notices keep members updated about the trends in the legal field and how it affects the paralegal profession. SVPA membership also provides countless opportunities to network with other paralegals and leaders in the legal industry. Attending a SVPA meeting leaves you re-charged about the profession and inspires you to continue to try to make a difference in the legal community. SVPA focuses on providing paralegal students with insightful knowledge into an area of law with their PASS program, Pay-It-Forward, and their college campus visits. SVPA assists many paralegal students by awarding their yearly scholarships to deserving students. MTI College is honored to be a part an innovative organization that strives every day to make a significant difference in the lives of paralegals.”, by Linda Gardenhire, Department Chair Paralegal Studies, MTI College.
