California paralegals are subject to the requirements of Business and Professions Code section 6450 et seq. Adopted in 2004, BP 6450 was the result of a cooperative effort among paralegals and attorneys to establish uniform standards of education, experience, and continued training for the paralegal profession. To act as a paralegal in California, one must have appropriate education and experience in the legal field, and complete a certain number of hours of continuing legal education.
