2016-2017 Board of Directors

There is currently two vacancies on the SVPA Board.  SVPA voting members in good standing and that meet the requirements of Business and Professions Code § 6450 are eligible to serve on the Board.  Contact us to learn more about becoming a Director.

The Board of Directors is responsible for setting policy, implementing programs, and representing the interests of our members.  The board meets the fourth Tuesday of the month February – November.  See our calendar for information on the next board meeting.

Eric Garcia, President, CAPA Representative & College Liaison

Eric is a 2008 graduate of the MTI Paralegal Program and has been a member of SVPA since 2007. Eric is currently employed as a Paralegal in the areas of Plaintiff Personal Injury, Probate, Estate Planning as well as has had previous experience in Family Law, and an extensive background in Human Resources. In addition, Eric’s 20+ years in the medical fields of Diagnostic Radiology and/or Clinical Research industry enables him to navigate through complex personal injury cases.  He is committed to advancing the profession of Paralegals as well as providing support to Sacramento area Paralegal/Legal Assisting Programs.

Sharon Gong, J.D., Vice President Membership

Sharon received her Juris Doctor from Lincoln Law School, Sacramento, CA in 1998 and has worked as a Paralegal in the Sacramento and Roseville area for over 15 years. She is currently working as a Senior Paralegal at Koeller Nebeker Carlson Haluck, LLP. in Roseville, CA. Ms. Gong has served as an SVPA Director since 2015.

Kathy Bailey, J.D., Vice President Education

Kathy received her Bachelor degree in English from Arizona State University and her Juris Doctor from Lincoln Law School of Sacramento, CA. She previously taught in the paralegal program
at Heald College for over 5 years. She has worked in a variety of legal roles in corporate, government, small and large law firms. Ms. Bailey is currently employed at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, a large international law firm and is dedicated to helping others reach their full potential.

 Janine Orsi, Treasurer

Janine has been a member of SVPA for sisteen years, serving as a Director and Treasurer. She has worked as a paralegal for 26 years for the California Attorney General’s office in Tort, Condemnation, and Administrative law.

Jessica Kloepfel, Secretary, SCBA Alternate

Jessica Kleopfel: Jessica received her A.A. Degree in Paralegal Studies from MTI College in 2013 where she also received her Legal Secretary Certificate in 2012. Her past experience includes legal assistant to the Chief Administrative Law Judge, General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel for the State of California, Public Employment Relations Board. She currently is a paralegal and legal assistant for a Medical Malpractice firm in Sacramento. Ms. Kleopfel has served as SVPA Secretary for the past two years and an SVPA Director since 2015.

 Mary Schneider, Director, CAPA Primary Representative

Mary graduated from CSU, Chico with a B.A. in Liberal Studies and a minor in Health Science. In 2014 she earned her A.A. in Paralegal Studies from MTI. Currently she works with The Law Offices of Carlson & Gevelinger specializing in Family Law and Probate. As a member of SVPA Mary realizes the importance of professional development and the vital role paralegal organizations hold in helping its members maintain their skills and competency.

Emily Larsen, CRP, Director, NFPA Primary Representative

Emily Larsen, MPA, CRP: Emily is interested in advancing the paralegal profession and encouraging individual paralegals to achieve their personal and professional goals. Emily has served SVPA as Director and NFPA Representative. She has been a member of SVPA for over ten years. She received her Paralegal Certificate from CSU, Chico; Bachelor of Arts from University of Puget Sound; and Master of Public Administration from CSU, Chico. Emily passed the Paralegal CORE Competency Exam (PCCE) in 2015 and is a CORE Registered Paralegal. Emily has worked in legal support for over 20 years and is currently employed at Sutter County Counsel.

 Rhonda Harrigan, Director, SCBA Primary

After 8 years as a legal secretary, Rhonda returned to school to earn her Paralegal degree from Blackstone in 2009. Rhonda supports several Rivera & Associates practice areas, with an emphasis on Litigation, Personal Injury, Civil Rights, Insurance Defense and Construction Defect. Ms. Harrigan has served as SVPA since 2015.

Keri Heaton, Director, Editor

Keri is currently a paralegal with Lauria Tokunaga Gates & Linn, LLP, specializing in insurance defense and medical malpractice litigation. Previously, Keri was with Duggan Law Corporation as their litigation secretary and paralegal. Keri graduated summa cum laude from California State University, Sacramento with a B.A. in Journalism in 2011. She went on to earn her Paralegal Certificate from University of California, Davis in 2013. Keri’s past experience includes freelancing for School Innovation & Advocacy’s Cabinet Report and working in the public relations department of the Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District. Keri has served as an SVPA Director and Editor for the past two years.

Alisa Razumovsky, Director, Social Media

Alisa graduated from San Diego State with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. In 2011 she earned her paralegal certificate from the University of San Diego and she began her paralegal career working in Business Immigration law for five years. She currently works in the field of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) as a Case Manager for JAMS. Alisa is passionate about the legal profession and appreciates the diversity that it has to offer. With a desire to serve her community, she is committed to advancing the Paralegal profession, particularly in the Sacramento area. Alisa has a proven her dedication to this commitment by serving as an SVPA director for the past two years and is excited for the opportunity to continue her service as a director.

Laila Sanousi, Director

Laila is currently working as a Legal Assistant/Administrator at Krogh & Decker, LLP a downtown Sacramento law firm that primarily serves businesses and their owners/operators. Laila enjoys the pace and variety that litigation practice offers and she hopes to prove to be a resource for paralegals and legal assistants entering the field. Laila has been a member of the SVPA since 2017 and is committed to being part of an organization that works to support paralegals in our community as well as foster an understanding of the valuable role paralegals play in the legal field

Norma Salinas-Bonnafon, Director

Norma is a 2014 graduate of American River College of the Legal Assisting Program and has been a member of SVPA since 2012. Norma has worked for a defense Workers’ Compensation attorney for over 7-years. In addition, Norma has over 25-years of experience in Office Administration and Inventory Management in the computer industry, and she has worked for companies like Packard Bell NEC, Apple, and Hewlett Packard. Norma is currently a PTA board member where she is the Treasurer for Third District PTA, and she provides training and mentoring for Council level and Unit level of Treasurers. Norma is also a Loan Signing Agent/Notary Public and provides closing services to buyers, sellers, and people who just want to refinance their homes through their title companies.
